Result - Summer Foursomes 2025
A sunny but blustery day on the Kings greeted our foursomes finalists, the team of Marshall & Campbell against Beattie & Lock.
With extensive provisions packed and flashlights at the ready for the anticipated long round Beattie and Lock took an early lead winning the first with Beattie judging the wind with pinpoint accuracy on his approach (that’s his story and he is sticking to it!). It was short lived as Marshall and Campbell then won the next 4 holes playing some excellent, controlled golf to race to 3 up. It stayed that way until the 7th where, having cleared the shoulder Marshall and Campbell were inexplicably unable to locate their ball. The only logical reason must have been that a Gleneagles deer, feeling despair for the plight of Beattie and Lock at that time, decided to run off with it. Back to 2 up and after Beattie and Lock won the 9th it was 1 up to Marshall and Campbell at the turn. Marshall and Campbell then won the 10th to go back to 2 up.
Marshall and Campbell had clearly been reading the golf nutrition book as they polished off a steak bridie at the half way house. It clearly affected them as Marshall (having walked half way to hole) played the team’s second shot on the 11th from the 10th green of the Queens. It didn’t matter as Beattie and Lock couldn’t capitalise and it remained 2 up to Marshall & Campbell. Downwind on 12 and with Beattie angry at himself for a poor putt on the previous hole he unleashed a drive that quite frankly could have ended up on the 8th tee but amazingly flew straight down the middle of the fairway. A win for Beattie and Lock got it back to 1 up. A bunker calamity on 13 restored Marshall and Campbell’s lead to 2 up and with halves on 14, 15 and 16 it left Beattie and Lock requiring to win 2 holes in a row. Something they had not achieved all day. As it was Marshall and Campbell won the 17th to win 3&1.
A deserved win for Marshall and Campbell, who played a very steady match and managed the conditions extremely well. Well played and good luck in your defence next year.
