Result. Monthly Medal. King’s. Sat 26th April.

After a week of suspiciously pleasant weather, normal service was well and truly restored today on the majestic King’s course, as we teed off into a classic Scottish drizzle—mild, but just damp enough to remind us who’s boss. The greens have undergone a miraculous transformation in recent weeks, and the improved conditions were reflected in the scores. Nearly a quarter of the field broke into the 60s with their nett scores, proving that the white tee challenge was no match for these fearless weekend warriors.

Leading the charge in the first group, the illustrious Mr Jon Cooper shook off an opening double bogey (complete with a shank for dramatic effect) to finish level par for a nett 66. His new Scotty putter was clearly worth every penny, helping him drain some outrageous putts—including a two-footer for eagle on the 6th. Who says you can’t buy happiness?

Mr Williamson entertained us with tales of his hole-in-one on the 8th the last time he played King’s, only to follow it up with a double bogey this time around. Golf, as ever, remains the great leveller. Still, level par over two rounds is nothing to sniff at!

Mr Kinnear enjoyed his round, undeterred by my laughter echoing from the group ahead or the enthusiastic cries of “red wine!” from Mr Lovelock in the group behind. True focus, or perhaps just selective hearing.

Our esteemed Club Secretary, Mr Stirling, looked set for victory until the 11th, where the bunkers conspired against him and he carded an 8. Mr Marshall, waiting on the tee, claimed he could smell the faint aroma of Hamlet cigars wafting from the carnage. Later, as Mr Stirling changed his soggy socks in the pro shop and recounted his bunker woes, Matthew was quick to offer a bunker lesson—perhaps with a side of dry socks.

Congratulations to our winner, Sandy Grant (see below), who posted a superb nett 64. Taking full advantage of his later tee time and the drying fairways, Sandy delivered a masterclass. Well played, Sir!

Next Saturday brings Round 2 of the Princes Pot on the PGA. The draw will be posted during the week.
