Match Report - 26th April vs Carnoustie Caledonia.
Dun Whinny produced a composed and ultimately convincing display on home turf at Kings & Queens on Sunday, seeing off Carnoustie Caledonia by a margin of 6–2 in a match that was tighter than the final scoreline suggests.
There were early exchanges across both loops, with Carnoustie Caledonia getting on the board, but Dun Whinny’s depth told as the afternoon unfolded, particularly on the Queens, where momentum steadily swung their way.
David Watt, fresh from success in Saturday’s DW90 Scramble, was unable to carry that form into the singles battle, coming up short in his match despite a solid effort. It was one of the few setbacks on an otherwise productive day for the hosts.
One of the standout contests came in Bill Sexton’s match, which ebbed and flowed before decisively turning in Dun Whinny’s favour. Sexton and partner Christian Stewart found themselves under early pressure, slipping to two down after dropped holes at the 3rd and 4th. What followed was a period of steady, if unspectacular, golf as both sides traded pars and refused to yield further ground.
The turning point arrived at the 10th, where Stewart holed for par to claw a hole back and inject some belief. Sexton then levelled matters at the 12th with a tidy net 3, and from there Dun Whinny seized control. With confidence growing, they picked off the closing stretch, Stewart’s par at the 16th sealing an impressive 4&2 victory.
Across the board, Dun Whinny showed resilience and a knack for timely contributions, turning close matches into points and keeping Carnoustie Caledonia at arm’s length. By the time the final putts dropped, the 6–2 scoreline reflected a side that handled the key moments better—and made home advantage count.
