Tony Stewart Masters the Queen's to Claim the Jack Adams Trophy
The 2026 Jack Adams Trophy was contested under glorious summer conditions on Saturday, with the Queen's Course looking every bit the jewel in Gleneagles' crown. Thankfully, the dense fog that had haunted the region earlier in the week lifted entirely, replaced by a warm, golden sunshine that reminded us why we endure the wetter months.
It was a day for pure, uninterrupted golf, and we are pleased to report there was no repeat of any Bryson DeChambeau-esque controversy; the only trampling of grass was done by players fruitlessly searching for their ball in the gorse, rather than any strategic attempts to improve a backswing.
The scoring perfectly reflected the excellent conditions, and at the head of the field, Tony Stewart delivered a clinical performance to claim the trophy with a superb 40 Stableford points. Tony navigated the nuances of the Queen's with the poise of a seasoned pro, finding the perfect balance between aggression and caution to reach the magic 40-point mark. It is a fantastic victory in a competition that carries so much warmth and history within the club.
Hearty congratulations to Tony on a fine round and for etchings his name on the hardwood base of "the big American's" trophy.
He was chased hard by Mark Nicolson, who carded an excellent 38 points to secure second place. Mark has been showing flashes of great form recently, and this runner-up spot confirms he is trending in the right direction. Michael Page rounded out the podium with a very solid 37 points, once again proving that he is one of the most reliable and consistent competitors in the Dun Whinny ranks.
The leaderboard remained tightly packed behind the leaders:
David Bruce and Paul Lewis shared 4th place with tidy scores of 36 points.
Jim Stewart, representing Blairgowrie, and our current Club Champion David Logie both turned in respectable 35 points.
Alan Penman, Billy Z McNeill, and Eric Lambert all finished within touching distance on 34 points.
Further down the list, names like Rob Crockart (33) and Colin Campbell (31) were unusually quiet by their high standards, perhaps finding the heat more of a challenge than the humidity. Your correspondent also noted that Jon Cooper (33) and Michael Collier (32) were very much in the hunt but just couldn't find the necessary birdie blitz required to catch the runaway Mr. Stewart.
As the sun sets on another wonderful day of hospitality and humour—two traits Jack Adams himself possessed in spades—we can look back on a competition that truly lived up to its legacy.
