Club Championship
The Club Championship final between Mark Higham and Neil Lock took place today after a fog delayed start.
Despite the conditions both players started strongly , with Mark taking first blood on the first , with strong scoring and great quality play to follow with Neil making an excellent par3 ( so nearly a two ) on the 5th to bring things back to even.
Matching shot for shot , it became a battle of the putter over the next few holes with Mark going up again on the 6th with Neil pegging him back to all square again on the 8th.
Mark edged the 9th with an excellent putt to go to the turn 1 up.
Neil again came back strongly and brought it back to level with excellent play at the 11th.
A tight match brought Mark again to 1 up with excellent play at the long 13th with a superb drive and excellent approach shot.
But Neil was by no means downhearted and took the 14th with an excellent birdie to square the match once again.
It was Neil’s turn to go into the lead for the first time with a better scramble at the 15th only for Mark to bring it back to all square again at the 16th.
Having squared the 17th it came down to the last hole With both player on the green in 3 Neil just wedged it to claim victory as Mark just missed his putt.
A great match , with excellent scoring over a course in magnificent condition , played in the very best of spirits , a credit to both players , and even to Eric Lambert who valiantly caddied for Mark.
Many congratulations to Neil , our new Club Champion!
