Queens Stableford Serves Up Laughs and Leaders

by Taz

The Queen’s Course was in playful mood for Saturday’s Stableford, serving up equal parts points, pratfalls, and plenty of patter for the 19th hole.

Congratulations go to Jonathan Dickson, who pieced together a fine round for 37 points to take top honours on a tricky day. Hot on his heels were Jon Cooper (36) and Billy Z McNeill (36) in joint‑second, while Ken Swa (34) and Rob Simpson (34) rounded out the top five with admirable control over Queens’ cunning greens. A worthy leaderboard and a fine day’s golf. Bravo to them all.

As for the sideshows: your correspondent managed to bury his ball so deep in the 2nd‑hole bunker it looked like a monk’s bald patch—but balanced it with a one‑putt par at the 5th. Billy Z, alas, saved his wallet today and bought no coffees—but then four‑putted from 10 feet on 13, which rather proved the perils of a caffeine shortage. Mr Lambert dusted off a 3‑wood unseen in a decade and promptly hooked it miles left on 17. Straight back into retirement with it. The mercurial Mr Logie reminded us he is human by smashing his drive on 6 over the road and into the trees beyond, while Ken Marshall wisely decided that the best service of the day was not on the A70 but on his sofa, watching the Ryder Cup.

So it ended with points won, dignity occasionally lost, and laughs had by all. Reminder: next week is the Final Medal on the King’s Course—entry via the app. Don’t miss the season’s last crack at silverware. Your correspondent, however, will be absent—off to Dubai for some warm‑weather “training” (though the only sand I intend to see is on the beach).

Day at the beach!
