Carnoustie Caledonia v Dun Whinny

Being selected to play for DW and visit some of Scotland’s (the world’s) finest championship courses is a highlight for us all. And so it was at Carnoustie today for 16 of us, who found the course in sparkling condition with perfect weather. The final score was 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 in Caledonia’s favour, so congratulations to our fabulous hosts. Though with so many close matches it could have gone either way. Congratulations to Ian Bilsland and Paul Wadsworth who had DW’s finest winning margin at 5&4….and to Ali /Beattie ….and Moran/Laing for winning their ties. The many notable moments include Ross MacNish who was in 3 bunkers on one hole! Also, Kevin Beattie whose drive on 13 landed on the fourth …..no mean feat! And to Al Cantlay who went out of bounds off the tee on 17 (think about it!)….. then when playing 18 drove back onto said 17th tee, pitched to the side of the green, and to the delight of partner Ewan Kinnear then birdied for our half point! As we can all testify, Carnoustie’s final four holes are reputed to be the hardest in golf. So in many senses the winner today deserves to be the magnificent course itself ……and quite right too.
