David Paterson Wins the Presidents Platter
The 2026 President's Platter reached its conclusion on Wednesday evening over the Queen's Course, bringing to an end one of Dun Whinny's most historic competitions. Played over two rounds—one on the King's and one on the Queen's from the yellow tees—the event rewards consistency across two very different examinations of golf, and this year's winner demonstrated exactly that.
Congratulations to David Paterson, who claimed the President's Platter with an excellent 36-hole aggregate net score of 137. Having opened with a steady 70 on the King's, David produced an even better 67 on the Queen's to overhaul the overnight leader and secure the famous silver platter by three shots. It was a composed and consistent performance over both courses, and a thoroughly deserved victory.
Overnight leader Ken Marshall had set the pace after his superb opening-round 67, but despite another solid effort of 73 on the Queen's, his aggregate of 140 saw him finish tied for second. Ken can take great pride in another excellent performance during what has been a consistently impressive season.
Joining Ken on 140 was Rob Simpson, whose rounds of 71 and 69 demonstrated exactly the sort of steady golf that this competition demands. Rob quietly worked his way through the field with an excellent second round and was unlucky to finish just three shots shy of the title.
Mark Higham continued his fine run of form with matching rounds of 71 for a total of 142, while Iain Aitchison rounded out the leading finishers on 152 after recovering well from an opening-round 81 with a much-improved 71 on the Queen's.
The President's Platter occupies a special place in Dun Whinny history. First awarded in 1978, it was presented by the club's founding Captain and first Honorary President, J.C. Dougall, whose generosity also gifted the club its original Championship Cup back in 1936. Nearly fifty years later, the competition continues to embody everything that makes club golf so enjoyable: two contrasting courses, two rounds of patient golf, and one worthy champion.
Congratulations once again to David Paterson, the 2026 President's Platter winner. His excellent aggregate of 137 earns him a deserved place on one of the club's most distinguished honours boards.
