Presidents Platter. Round 1. King’s. Yellow Tee. Wed 17th June.

The President’s Platter gets underway on Wednesday 17 June, with competitors setting out on the first leg of one of Dun Whinny’s most traditional and respected competitions.

Played over two rounds from the Yellow Tees, one on the Kings and one on the Queens, the President’s Platter rewards consistency rather than a single outstanding score. The player returning the best aggregate nett score across both rounds will lift the famous silver platter.

With the club’s leading performers having already shown strong form throughout the season, the opening round promises to be keenly contested. Recent winners and regular prize contenders will be looking to establish an early advantage, but experience suggests that this event is rarely decided on the first day. A solid score, avoiding the costly mistakes that can derail a two-round challenge, is often the key to eventual success.

The competition carries significant historical importance within the club. First awarded in 1978, the trophy was presented by J.C. Dougall, Dun Whinny’s founding Captain and later its first Honorary President. His generous gift created a competition that continues to honour both the club’s heritage and the spirit of friendly rivalry that has always been at the heart of Dun Whinny golf.

Round one on Wednesday evening will set the stage, but with a second round still to come, every shot could prove crucial in the race for the President’s Platter. Players will be aiming to put themselves firmly in contention before the competition reaches its conclusion in early July.
