Dun Whinny vs Whitemuir - 2026

And so, with fair conditions and joy in our hearts we set off on our annual match against the rivals and chums of Whitemuir G.C.The courses were in fine condition and weather ideal with the only concern being just what impact the imminent eclipse of the sun may have on proceedings.

As always we were paired in three groups running concurrently off each of Kings and Queens, so 6 'points' were up for grabs.

The 'banter' on the putting green set the tone for what is clearly a favourite fixture for all involved.

The sequence of events is such that those on Queens tend to complete their rounds slightly before those playing on Kings.

So first scalp on Queens went the way of DW with a pleasurable win over two of Whitemuir's finest (and very low handicappers ) Steven Young and Jamie Simpson.

Then followed a second Queen's win driven by a canny use of shots by Mr. McLeod.

Sadly, the first result from Kings highlighted the skills of 'putting machine' Iain Mackenzie for Whitemuir and that brought matters closer.

This momentum continued with a stellar game from Ian Shaw of Whitemuir bringing in their second victory on Kings.

Two all.

As in past years, Olivia (O'Leary) made excellent use of her shots and her steady play brought the Whitemuir entourage their first win of the day on Queens.

And so, we waited with baited breath for the last group on Kings, confident that the dynamic duo of Rob Simpson and Frank would bring home the all important point for an overall draw. Oh my. If only Sam Findlay hadn't played the 'round of his life'.....

So it was : a narrow victory to Whitemuir 4 - 2.

In the series, cumulatively, we stood completely eeksie peeksie at the start of the day, but the bragging rights swang back to Whitemuir.

Partly due to cloud cover, that eclipse was broadly a damp squib and perhaps reflected some of our efforts. However, we live to fight on and the usual pizza and beers lifted spirits

With many thanks to Iain and Steven for arranging another splendid, friendly event.
