DW90 - Past Captains Scramble - Draw
There is an added sense of occasion at Dun Whinny this season, as the club marks 90 years since its founding on Thursday 30th April 1936. To celebrate the milestone, this Saturday sees the first, and perhaps only, running of a special Past Captain’s Scramble.
We have tried to make the day as enjoyable as possible, while adding a few subtle twists that pay homage to the golf and camaraderie that would have been enjoyed by our predecessors some 90 years ago.
A full field of 64 players will take to the course on Saturday 25th April in teams of four, bringing together a wonderful mix of returning past captains, friends of Dun Whinny, and current members. While the format promises plenty of competitive golf, the day is very much about recognising the people who have played such an important role in the club’s history, and celebrating everything that Dun Whinny has become over the past nine decades.
The presence of so many past captains adds real significance to the occasion. Their contribution to the club over the years is immeasurable, and it is fitting to see them back on the fairways as part of this anniversary event, alongside both familiar faces and new ones.
The scramble format should lend itself to some lively scoring, with teams working together and, no doubt, the occasional debate over club selection. Adding to the interest, there are a number of excellent prizes up for grabs, kindly donated to mark the occasion, along with individual competitions throughout the round. Players will be testing their accuracy with the straightest drive on the 1st, chasing precision for nearest the pin on the 5th, opening the shoulders for longest drive on the 10th, and facing a nearest the pin challenge on the 16th, with a twist sure to keep things interesting.
It promises to be a memorable and fitting way to celebrate 90 years of Dun Whinny, bringing together past and present for a day that reflects the spirit and history of the club.
Lunch and Prizegiving will take place after all the groups have completed their rounds and other guests are welcome to join us in A70 from 11:30 onwards.
