Draw - Seniors Trophy and Monthly Medal. Queens White Tees. Sat 31st May.
Gentlemen,
It seems the blustery weather is here to stay for this weekend’s Seniors Trophy and Monthly Medal—clearly, Mother Nature has a wicked sense of humour and a particular fondness for golf.
Fresh off the back of last weekend’s Jubilee triumph, we now gather on the regal Queen’s course, where the white tees await our best (or bravest) efforts. Any gentleman aged 55 or over is welcome to vie for the Seniors title, while the Monthly Medal remains open to all, no matter how many candles you managed to blow out on your last birthday.
This year, we continue with the Super Seniors Prize! This coveted trophy will go to the player aged 65 or over with the best nett score—a golden opportunity for our most “seasoned” members to remind the rest of us that experience really does count (and that youth is wasted on the young).
So, who will claim glory this week? Will Queen’s course connoisseurs David Logie and Neil Lock once again show us how it’s done? With last year’s Seniors champ, Chris Tulips, out of the running, a new name will be immortalised on the “wisdom-enhanced” trophy. And can Alan Black make it two in a row in the Super Seniors? One thing’s for sure: Ross MacNish won’t be winning the Seniors Trophy—unless his anti-aging routine is even more effective than his golf swing!
The draw is below, though in true golfing tradition, it’s likely to change more often than the Scottish weather in the next 48 hours.
Good luck, and may your drives be long and your excuses creative!
History: The Macfarlane Quaich first awarded in 2009. From the early 1980’s there had been included in the Fixture List a Seniors Medal. This prize was generally a voucher or small gift purchased annually by the Club but in 2009 a trophy was presented to the Club by Bob Macfarlane a past Captain of Dun Whinny. The trophy takes the form of a substantial sized Quaich and was previously a golf trophy for the Beazer Homes organisation for whom Bob was once the Chairman. The trophy was originally used for a Beazer Homes golf competition in 1997 and 1998 and carries an inscription to that effect. Bob was keen to make this presentation as this was the one event in the calendar for which there was no formal prize. The trophy is for the best net score from the medal tees of the Queens course and the winner has to be aged 55 years or older on the date of the competition
