2026 Captain/Pro Challenge and DW90 Update

Good morning,

I am delighted to confirm the continuation of the very popular Pro/Captain Challenge Series in 2026.

For the benefit of new members, this series has been running for a few years and comprises a monthly fourball better ball match between Andrew Jowett (Gleneagles Director of Golf) and the Captain, against two challengers from the club membership. Strokes are taken in accordance with normal match play rules, and AJ plays off scratch.

The purpose of the series is to have fun and to raise a modest amount for charity. The losing pair pays £25 (or more if they wish!). Like last year, I have chosen Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) as the charity to receive the funds.

With some very genrous donations we were able to donate £1600 in 2025.

The dates and details for 2026 are as follows:

  • Wednesday 22nd April – 8:30am – PGA

  • Friday 29th May – 8:30am – Kings

  • Sunday 14th June – 8:30am – PGA

  • Sunday 12th July – 8:30am – PGA

  • Sunday 16th August – 8:30am – Queens

  • Sunday 20th September – 8:30am – Queens

  • Sunday 4th October – 8:30am – PGA

If you would like to participate, please find a partner and let me know which date(s) your pairing can make. Please also consider asking one of our newer members to form a pairing.

If previous years are anything to go by, I anticipate high demand, so please understand it may not be possible to accommodate everyone. The more dates you offer, the better your chance of getting a match.

I will publish the draw once entries are confirmed. Please send me your pairings and availability for the events by Friday 24th April. If you wish to feature in the Wednesday 22nd April match, please confirm by Wednesday 15th April. I will respond promptly about the opening match, given it takes place this month.

DW90 - Past Captain Scramble

The DW90 Event takes place on Saturday 25th April, and it is already shaping up to be one of the standout days of the season.

We are delighted to welcome a number of past captains and friends of Dun Whinny to join us for the occasion, which should make for a fantastic atmosphere both on and off the course. With demand already extremely strong, it looks highly likely we will surpass the record number of participants for any non-Jubilee event.

For that reason, members planning to play are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible, as we expect all available tee times to be fully taken.

As ever, scramble formats can be particularly tricky for Iain and Taz to organise, as the success of the draw depends on having the correct number of players to create balanced teams of four. We would therefore ask that members only add their name if they are certain they can play on the day, which will help enormously with planning and ensure the morning runs smoothly.

Should the event become oversubscribed, priority may need to be given to those who are able to stay on for the A70 gathering afterwards. As the app does not allow you to note this when signing up, please let Iain know separately if you are unable to stay on after the golf.

The golf will be played across our usual Saturday allocated tee times from 7:40am to 9:40am, before the celebrations continue with exclusive use of the A70 bar for food, drinks, and prizegiving from 11:30am until 3:30pm.

It promises to be a superb day for the club, and we look forward to seeing a tremendous turnout.

Best regards,
Daley
