Wallace Weaves Magic on the Queen’s to Claim the Darroch
If there was ever any lingering doubt about who owns the hottest streak in Dun Whinny golf this autumn, Allister Wallace provided the definitive answer over the Queen’s Course on Saturday.
Continuing a rich vein of form that recently saw him capture the Summer Foursomes alongside Daley Smith and light up the Autumn Meeting with a net 68, Wallace tore apart the white tees with an imperious, magnificent haul of 40 Stableford points. In a competition conceived more than four decades ago by Stuart Drysdale and Fraser Darroch to test precision and nerve over James Braid’s moorland test, Allister made the heather and contours look positively benevolent, leaving the entire field trailing in his wake.
Chasing hard was our serial silverware collector Ken Marshall, who once again demonstrated why his name rarely leaves the top of the leaderboard. Playing off a razor-sharp 7, Ken compiled a tidy 37 points to take second spot, followed closely by newly minted Singles Matchplay Champion Keith Stirling on 36.
A tightly packed pack on 34 points saw scratch maestro David Logie—playing off 2 and fresh from his Medal Final gross triumph—share fifth alongside Captain Daley Smith, David McLeod, and last week's net king Rob Simpson. But none could lay a glove on the runaway leader.
Heartiest congratulations go to Allister Wallace on capturing the prestigious D.F. Darroch Trophy in emphatic fashion. With the Gala Prize Giving Ball looming large in November, the club silversmith may need to consider booking extra time just to carve Allister’s name onto all the hardware!
