The Gavin Aitken Trophy 2026 Results

Saturday 30th May 2026

On Saturday, we participated in the annual Gavin Aitken Memorial Tournament, held in honour of a young Gleneagles Professional whose life was tragically cut short in the mid 1980s.

This is a highly respected event in the Gleneagles calendar and represents the only event where all four clubs compete among themselves. The Gleneagles golf team back the event with continued respect and enthusiasm and organised the event with aplomb again this year.

Each year there can be nuanced changes in format and for this year, in part due to a change in the diary, not all clubs were able to furnish a comprehensive team. Last year each Club selected a team of seven each which was then supplemented by an allocated member from the golf academy professionals but this year full teams were reduced in number to 6, including the Pro.

Our allocated Professional this year was 'friend of the firm' Matthew and he didn't let us down.

The event took place over the Kings course with gents playing off 'yellows' and ladies off 'greens'. Stableford scoring for all players.

Conditions were 'fresh and breezy' and given that every score counted the pressure was omnipresent. In 2025, DWGC managed to win the event after a decade-long 'drought' so we, in particular, had a point to prove.

I am delighted to report that our own masterful Iain Aitchison won the accolade of best performer on the day with an impressive tally of 38 stableford points. Furthermore, Messrs Smith and Beattie (38 and 35 respectively) also managed to finish in the top 6 in a field of 24.

For reasons of 'brevity', I shall limit individual DW recognition to the above three gentlemen, but with great delight I can report that your Club has retained this very special trophy.

Who knows, could the treble really be on for next year?

Whatever the future holds, the collective gathering of all clubs to celebrate Gavin is the significant factor here and this event bonds the place like nothing else.
