Dun Whinny VS Whitemuir
With the benefit of superb conditions, dry and wind free, we set off on the now annual challenge against the mighty Whitemuir team.
This was the third holding of the event and Whitemuir were 'hosts'.
In pulling together their team, Whitemuir discovered great demand for the tie and suggested we expand the event from 6 fourballs to 8. Of course the enthusiasm of DW members rose to this challenge and, with limited noticed, we fielded a crack team of 16
With a reasonably late start time of 4.00pm we were spread across both Queens (3 groups) and Kings (5 groups).
We didn't start too well, losing both initial ties (albeit very closely) on each of Queens and Kings. Two down so early. But the competitive squads of Lambert and Black, Scott and Mitchell and Marshall and Kelly brought matters back on track and everything was just looking fine.
The third match on Kings didn't quite go to plan and Ewan Kinnear displayed just how little golf his busy lifestyle allows.
Then, and despite their apparent enthusiasm it transpired that one team member for Whitemuir just couldn't make his tee time and in the true spirit of sportsmanship, Mssrs McCulloch and Cantlay generously offered to play their one member - man against man- on a rotating basis. Very sadly this didn't work out too well and that tie went in the favour of the 'one man band'.
By fine margins these things are decided and Whitemuir were victorious: 4 1/2 to 3 1/2
As in previous years, thanks go to Iain and Steven for their diligent preparation and the now standard fare of pizzas and beers was enjoyed by all afterwards.
